Mrs C Wood, wife of Dr Wood, was active in the village in the early to mid 20th century, raising money for the Penshurst Nursing Association and organising events. She left a small notebook which covers some of the organisation of these tasks, including the 1937 Coronation, the 1935 Jubilee and theatricals in Penshurst, which is reproduced in the files below. It is full of little snippets of information about how much things cost at that time, who helped out in the village, and (p7/8 in the tea committee minutes) the fact that the medals given to the children of the village at the 1935 jubilee tea in Barons Hall were presented by the Queen of Romania, “who happened to be lunching with De Lisle that day”.
